4-H Nepal is a non-governmental, non-profit youth-led organization. The “4-H” represents Head, Heart, Hands, and Health and is a worldwide movement that promotes agriculture. The organization is officially registered globally and is involved in youth and agriculture-related activities in 51 countries. 4-H Nepal is the first organization of its kind in South Asia, working to promote agricultural entrepreneurship, especially among youth in Nepal.
4-H Nepal, in collaboration with partners, organized the Second Youth Agro-Entrepreneurship Symposium at the Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, from May 20–21, 2018. The symposium was held with the vision and slogan “Educate, Advocate, and Communicate: Empowering Youth in Agriculture” and was attended by youth entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, and experts across the country.
The main objective of the two-day conference is to provide a platform for young entrepreneurs and policymakers to come together, discuss the issues and challenges related to youth participation in agriculture and entrepreneurship development, and explore ways to promote youth agro-entrepreneurship in Nepal. The conference also aimed to contribute to the country’s long-term development through agro-entrepreneurship.
Youths from various parts of the country converged in Kathmandu, showcased their experiences, innovations, and visions; and discussed the policy environment that encouraged entrepreneurship. The symposium aimed to create networks, platforms, and mechanisms for youth entrepreneurs to collaborate and work together to foster a better environment for young people in agriculture. Around 170 participants took part in the two-day symposium.
