Sudur Youth Eco Summit: Tikapur Eco Declaration

Tikapur, Kailali, The Sudur Youth Eco Summit, organized by the AFU, Tikapur 4-H Nepal and the Fwu-foa Tikapur 4-H nepal, concluded with the formal release of the Nine-Point Tikapur Declaration. The summit brought together 150 youth delegates from all nine districts of Nepal’s Far Western Province to address climate, environmental and agricultural challenges.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated in the permises of the Tikapur Multiple Campus, Tikapur. The program was chaired by Mr. Bishnu Prasad Belbase, President of 4-H Nepal. Mr. Lok Raj Awasthi, President of the Asia 4-H Network, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Jitu Uppadhyay, Political Advisor and Chief Minister of Sudur Province, also participated as a Special Guest. Also the campus dean and professors were attended the event as a guest.

After the formal session, students from AFU and Fwu delivered a joyful cultural performance, adding a lively and positive environment to the occasion.

The presentation session featured speakers who explored two critical and timely topics: “Agriculture in Nepal and Climate Change” and “Climate Change and the Role of Youth” by Mr. Lok Raj Awasthi, President of the Asia 4-H Network. The session was lively and interactive, especially during the Q/A session, where young participants actively shared their thoughts and asked meaningful questions.

Following the workshop, a Youth Kachahari session was organized, where participants were divided into six groups. Each group was assigned a unique discussion topic, encouraging active dialogue and exchange of ideas among the youth. The session fostered engagement, teamwork, and critical thinking on key social and developmental issues.

The declaration calls for the implementation of climate awareness programs in local languages, the formulation of climate-friendly policies across all 88 local levels, and the initiation of youth-led climate dialogues. It further urges the federal government to recognize the Far West’s heightened vulnerability to climate change and to introduce targeted, sustainable environmental protection policies. Additionally, the document advocates for the modernization of indigenous agricultural systems through smart technologies while preserving Nepal’s traditional food heritage. The event ended with a talk about the Tikapur Eco Declaration, which was officially accepted after the youth and guests agreed to it. The program was officially closed with concluding remarks from the President of 4-H Nepal, Mr. Bishnu Prasad Belbase.

Youth participants pledged to lead climate-conscious initiatives, avoid environmentally harmful practices, and actively engage in policy advocacy and community-based climate dialogues. The declaration will be submitted to all municipalities in the Far West, as well as to provincial and federal authorities, reinforcing the youth’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
